Team Places 4th Overall

The Madeira Swim and Dive team capped off an incredible season with an impressive fourth-place finish at the VISAA State Meet, showcasing the talent, dedication, and hard work of our athletes. The team's collective effort and determination were on full display, resulting in strong performances across the board.

A standout highlight of the meet was the State Champion 200 Freestyle Relay team, who captured the top spot with a dominating performance. The relay squad, comprised of Lydia Foster '26, Sunny Chen '26, Coleen Desmond '25, and Kayla Smith '25, demonstrated exceptional speed, teamwork, and precision, securing Madeira's place at the top of the podium. Their victory was a testament to their relentless work ethic and chemistry in the pool.

In addition to the relay victory, several individual swimmers and divers delivered outstanding performances, contributing crucial points to the team's overall success. Full list below.

We are so proud of how our athletes came together and competed at such a high level. Finishing fourth in the state, only one point behind the third place team, and earning a relay state championship speaks volumes about the dedication of these student-athletes.

All of the coaches are so proud of the team and its performance this season. Coach Guzman summed up the experience well: “It was a fun weekend of team camaraderie, personal lifetime bests, and thrilling finishes.”

Kayla Smith '25 reflected on the season: "I am so proud of the Swim States team this year! We have had an incredible season, placing first in the 200 freestyle relay, which also landed us an All-American consideration. I appreciate all the support from my coaches, parents, and friends who made my senior year so memorable."

Sunny Chen '26 added her thoughts: "This State Championship meet will forever hold a special place in my heart, as it truly exemplified the rewarding feeling of seeing hard work come to fruition—whether in the pool or in the gym. The moment that stands out most to me is being part of our victorious 200 Freestyle Relay because after being bumped to the second seed in prelims, we were all fiercely determined to claim that win, and watching the relentless drive and motivation shared among the four of us was incredibly inspiring and unforgettable. There is no feeling quite like the one I experience after a meet like States—one that leaves an indelible mark on my heart. As I reflect on this season, I walk away filled with immense pride for my team, and I am eager to see what the future holds in the year ahead!"

Congratulations to all of our swimmers, divers, and coaches on an exceptional season and a memorable finish at the VISAA State Meet!
