Kira B. ’26 won Gold at the 2022 USA Pentathlon Multisport (USAPM) National Championships this summer, becoming the reigning National Champion for her age group. The Championships were held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, and Kira’s results have also qualified her for the World Championships in Italy.

Historically, the Pentathlon was first documented in Ancient Greece and consisted of the long jump, javelin throwing, discus throwing, running, and wrestling. Reintroduced in the early 1900s, its modern counterpart is comprised of horseback riding, fencing, swimming, shooting and running. Athletes compete in all five sports, starting with three separate events for fencing, swimming, and equestrian. Each pentathlete’s scores from the three events are totaled and converted to create staggered starting times for the final event, the laser-run, which alternates four rounds of laser pistol shooting and a 600m run.

We loved seeing Kira repping her Madeira gear throughout her gold medal quest – Go Snails!
