The English program helps to carry out the School's mission by introducing students to the diversity of the world outside themselves and by encouraging them to make connections across the curriculum. The four required years of English instruction constitute a cumulative program that introduces students to the full diversity of their literary heritage as English speakers, helps them to become thoughtful, lifelong readers, hones their analytical abilities, and trains them to write correctly, fluently, and creatively. Through frequent writing assignments, students learn how to develop logical narrative structures and use a rich and precise vocabulary in all English courses.
